The Town of Forest Heights, MD (pop. 2,605) seeks an experienced individual for the position of Town Administrator. The Town Administrator is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Town and is responsible for the Town’s overall management and administration. The Town Administrator assists the Mayor with developing Town policies and carries out policies established by ordinances, resolutions and Council directives. The Town Administrator supervises the Town’s general affairs and all employees, contractors, and agents, except the Town Attorney. The Town Administrator plans, organizes, and directs the overall Town government, and ensures that the Mayor and Council’s policies and directives are properly implemented and monitored. The Town Administrator will work closely with the Mayor as the Mayor serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Town and as the primary liaison between the Town Administrator and Council.

The Town was incorporated in 1949 and operates under a Mayor/Council structure. Forest Heights is located in southern Prince George’s County. It is bisected by MD210. The Washington Beltway is nearby, close to the Woodrow Wilson Bridge providing access into Virginia. The Town has expanded its future tax base through a series of annexations. The Town now occupies 2.6 square miles, with annexations expecting to push the total to 5 square miles over the next two years. The Town is governed by the Mayor and six Council Members who serve two-year staggered terms. The Town has 33 full time, and 4 part time employees. The FY25 Budget is $6.5 million.

The Administrator will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and four years of local government experience, with specific knowledge of finance, personnel, grants and the details of the regulations and processes regarding annexation.

The Administrator serves as the Town Personnel Officer, attends and participates in Town Council meetings, investigates Town operations for possible improvements, and manages contracts and purchasing. Key issues/challenges facing the Administrator include financial/budget management in a tight economy, tax base expansion through appropriate annexations, and the continuation of quality Town services and maintenance of Town infrastructure.

The Administrator can expect to receive a salary in the range of $116,000 to $125,000 along with a competitive benefit package.
